Dakota Johnson Cast as Madame Web in Sony's Spider-Verse

It's no secret that Sony has been desperate to ride the coattails of the MCU, and Spider-Man: No Way Home finally gave them the fuel they needed to push their franchise even further. Sony recently announced that Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Fanning had been cast to play the titular character in their Spider-Man franchise.

At the moment, it is unclear whether Johnson will play the more familiar version of Madame Web, Cassandra Web, or the younger heir to the mantle, Julia Carpenter. There is also the possibility that Johnson will be portraying some amalgam of both characters. Either way, knowing that there's also a Kraven film in the w

orks starring Aaron Taylor Johnson, and rumors/fan cries for Andrew Garfield to return to the role of Spider-Man for this universe, Sony could have a strong slate of Spider-Verse films!

S.J. Clarkson is currently slated to direct Madame Web with a script penned by Matt Sazaman, Burk Sharpless, and Kerem Sanga. The character of Madame Web (Cassandra Web) was created by the late Denny O'Neil, while Julia Carpenter was created by Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck.

What do you think of the casting? Do you agree with Sony's pick, or did they miss the mark? Sound off in the comments and let us know what's POPPING your culture!
